Summary

This site was designed to streamline and automate the way composers interact with Studio 51. All demo submissions, reviews, and configuration of metadata will occur within this site. Each of these processes have been carefully designed and optimized to reduce not only errors, but the amount of work required by you to quickly get your music from your studio through Studio 51 and then back out to the various libraries that we serve. All metadata configuration is now handled via simple web forms with most of the heavy lifting occurring automatically and behind the scenes, thus allowing you to concentrate on simply writing and submitting great music.

There are several areas to this site that are accessible via the buttons along the top of the screen. Each of those areas are described below.

My Opportunities

This are is where you will find all the current open opportunities that are available for you to write for. This system knows which writing groups you are associated with and only displays opportunities that are relavant to you. Once an opportunity is closed it simply disappears from your list, so you know that you are always looking at current information. You can see, at a glance, all the details related to the open opportunities including audio samples, submission projected deadlines and the remaining count of pieces that are needed to fill an opportunity. This is the area you will go to to submit your demos for review.

Note that all of the columns in the table found in this area are sortable by simply clicking on a column name. You can sort on multiple columns by holding down the shift key as you click on the various columns you wish to sort by, which makes this table viewable in a number of different ways.

My Music

This area contains all of the music you have submitted to Studio 51. You will come here to see the review status of demos that you have submitted. If edits are required, you will see the details of the changes requested from here. You will also be able to resubmit your demos through this area once you have made the required changes. Additionally, this area displays all of your demos that have been accepted and is where you will go to further configure your accepted pieces with metadata via a simple and intuitive web form. Finally, this area also acts as an archive for all the pieces that you have ever submitted through Studio 51.

Note that all of the columns in the tables found in this area are sortable by simply clicking on a column name. You can sort on multiple columns by holding down the shift key as you click on the various columns you wish to sort by, which makes these tables viewable in a number of different ways.

Samples

This area contains music samples that you can listen to to hear examples of pieces in various styles that are available for you to submit music to. Use these sample pieces as a reference point to guide your submissions into the various genres.

This will be an uncompressed, unmastered version with a peak level of -3dB. This will be properly mixed so client libraries may engineer to their specs.

This is an edit of the full version with only the background instrumentation. No lead instruments or vocals. This piece is only created by muting various tracks to create an understated edit of the Full version and therefore will be the exact length of the Full version. This is music that is there "not to be noticed". It is used to set the mood of a scene and most often placed under dialog. For Trailers/Promos this is the Full version WITHOUT the FX. Do not include Drums or Percussion!

This will be a second underscore provided on a piece. The volume of the underscore will be its original level as it was in the context of the Full version.

This is a musical representation of the cue. A :60 Edit requires a clear opening and an ending either in a stinger, or a drop to tonic note. It is a musical representation of the Full version and should incorporate the hook when possible. It must go completely silent between :59.5 and :60. Let either the reverb or sustain close the note within the last 1/2 second.

This is a musical representation of the cue. A :30 Edit requires a clear opening and an ending either in a stinger, or a drop to tonic note. This stem mutes only the Vocal/Vox. All all remaining instrumentation is left intact. This stem is the exact length of the Full version.

This is a drum and bass version. All but the rhythm instrumentation is muted, therefore must be the exact same lengths the Full version.

This is the melody only. This is typically used where there is more than one melodic (lead) instrument. This is created by muting the harmonic, percussion, and Bass (optional) instrumentation, therefore must be the exact same length as the Full version.

This is a solo lead instrument only (i.e. Piano, etc) This Stem is created by muting all but the lead instrument, therefore must be the exact same length as the Full version.

A Capella version of your music. No instrumentation!

Vocalization version of your Full Version replacing sung words (lyrics) with oohs, ahhs, doos, humming, whistling, etc. Refer to the Opportunity Description for details.

This is original fidelity represented by the period the recording represents as broadcast across AM radio.

This stem will reflect the fidelity related to a vinyl record recording. Make sure that scratches are limited and that the same scratch is not uniform throughout the recording. For example a single scratch across the entire recording speeds up as the needle moves to the center. A single scratch throughout will be discouraged. Random usage scratches is what we are looking for.

This stem is used as an underscore, but unlike most underscores it retains the lead. It is built by sinking the melody (lead) deeper into the harmonies than would be expected in the full version.

These will only be used in the Electro upbeat Dance and Hip Hop pieces. As the guest is introduced this will further excite the audience. This will be a :15 - :17 stem and will close on a sustained tonic.

This stem will be :05 - :07 piece reflective of the general theme of the full version. Opening on the 3rd or 4th and dropping to tonic with at least a :01 sustain on the tonic allowing the editor to trim it.

This stem mutes only the Lead. All all remaining instrumentation is left intact. This stem must be the exact same length as the Full version.
